Our service to you leaflet (108KB, pdf) |
Fleas, Bed Bugs and some other household insect infestations can be treated. Insects that do not pose a public health risk will not be treated, and you will need to find a commercial treatment.
The treatment involves spraying. You need to remove all items from the floor (eg, toys, shoes, clothes), vacuum clean thoroughly and then dispose of the contents of the vacuum cleaner.
If there are either:
at the property, you need to tell the Pest Control Officer, so that additional precautions can be taken. If there are pets at the property, they need their flea treatment to be up to date from the vets.
As access to the inside of a property will be required, an appointment will be need to be made. The Pest Control Officer will advise you of the number of repeat treatments that are necessary on inspection.
If you are unsure of the exact nature of an insect infestation, request a Pest Control Officer to phone, who may be able to identify the pest over the phone, or arrange for a visual identification (you'll need an example insect (dead or alive but not squashed) in a sealed jar for inspection - the Pest Control Officer will advise). Advice over the phone is free, but there is a call out charge of £17.63 if the Pest Control Officer has to make a visit and delivers no treatment.
Note that this service is limited by the availability of Pest Control Officers, so at peak times urgent replies to enquiries may not always be possible.
The current charge for a complete treatment is £59.93 incl VAT for domestic properties (free if on income support or registered disabled). Phone 0845 300 6091 to arrange a pest control visit or to set up a new pest control contract.
