Self Administrated Allotments
Harrogate Borough Council actively encourages its allotment sites to become part of the Self Administration Scheme.
The plot-holders form an Association, which includes a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Trustees. These are volunteers who carry out the day to day running of the site themselves, with the constant support from the Council's Parks Development Support Officer.
Running the site in this way has many benefits including:
- Having more say in how the site is run
- In most cases, cheaper rents
- A tremendous community spirit
- Social activities
- The ability to apply for grants and funding
