Sharps are dangerous and should not be handled under any circumstances.

The Council's Environmental Services Unit will safely and hygienically dispose of needles and syringes found in the community.

If you find a needle or a syringe it needs urgent attention but under no circumstances touch the item, contact 0845 300 6091

or use the online reporting form below.

Please provide us with as much detail as possible about its location.

Council staff likely to come across discarded needles in the community carry Sharps boxes and protective clothing so that they can be dealt with safely and disposed of properly.  Health and Safety training and reporting is in place to ensure that staff can deal with these environmental issues in an appropriate and thorough manner; and that the Council have records of levels of activity so that the risk to the community and employees can be managed effectively.

Prescribed syringes and needles need to be returned either directly to GP surgeries or local pharmacies.  Sharps boxes are available free of charge from their health provider for those patients who neeed them.

Please supply us with your name, address including postcode, telephone number and email address so that we can contact you about your enquiry or comments.
