Yore Vision (Boroughbridge and the Lower Ure Valley)

Welcome to this introduction on Yore Vision.

We cannot hope to cover all that has happened to date or all that we hope will happen in the future.  We would like to think that it provides a simple overview.  If you would like to know more contact us through the online response form below.

What is Yore Vision?

'Yore Vision' is an organisation set up to identify, develop and deliver projects to improve Boroughbridge and the Lower Ure Valley.

It is made up of local residents and businesses who are committed to making the best of the area and to carrying forward ideas that emerged from a series of community conferences held in the area over the past two years.

The Renaissance Market Towns (RMT) Initiative was launched in Boroughbridge in 2004 and an RMT Delivery Plan was developed which represents the aspirations of the town over the coming 25 years.

Yore Vision are working to oversee proposals being developed through the RMT programme and to build on the achievements of the former Boroughbridge District Community Partnership.

What is Yore Vision trying to achieve?

A main focus of Yore Vision is to reinforce the role of Boroughbridge as the principal service centre in the area in order to improve the town as a whole and benefit all residents, businesses and rural communities within the Lower Ure Valley.

A number of project groups have been established within Yore Vision, each working to progress the key ideas. These include:
  • the creation of a Centre of Rural Enterprise with associated workshops;
  • an Arts/Business Forum, based in Aldborough, which will provide a mixed use venue incorporating a performing arts space, meeting/breakout space for small conferences, and development of adjacent Roman site and Museum;
  • refurbishment and improvement of St James Square and Town Centre public realm works for the benefit of motorists and pedestrians;
  • 'Improving the Offer' package including a property improvement grant scheme for commercial town centre properties and customer care courses;
  • Youth facility / provision for the young people of Boroughbridge and the Lower Ure area;
  • 'Ure Walks Through Time' - a project to develop a series of walks in and around Boroughbridge;
  • support for Great Ouseburn Village Hall 'Raising the Roof' project.

Each of these projects will capitalise on the strengths and opportunities offered by Boroughbridge and improve the town's ability to boost its business and visitor economy and enhance the quality of life for local communities.

In addition to the above projects, Yore Vision operate an 'Initiatives Fund' - this provides small grants to community projects which are consistent with the town charter and located within Boroughbridge and district.
