DATE 11 DECEMBER 2006 -   FOUR  Students from Boroughbridge High School were set a challenge to create banners and other marketing material to be used in recruitment campaigns for Harrogate Borough Council's Human Resources Team.  And the winning designer, Rebecca Sargent, will see her work go into production this week.

As part of a Schools' Enterprise Initiative, backed by the North Yorkshire Business and Enterprise Council, the students were asked to create designs that would be attractive to young potential employees.

Mark Lancaster, Sales and Marketing Director of Colour It In, visited the school earlier this year to promote this initiative.  He has now invited the students to his premises in Harrogate to see the winning design being created into the finished product.

Rebecca's winning design will be used to create two recruitment banners and designs produced by Olivia Proctor, Will Jeffrey and Emma Chester will be used for postcards, posters and vacancy boards.

Councillor Andrew Jones, Chair of Harrogate Borough Council's Human Resources Committee is pleased with the way the project has gone.  He said:  "We wanted to raise awareness of job opportunities for young employees and it is good to have a young person's perspective.  We now have material that is attractive to young people who may not have thought of local government as their first choice of career.  We are grateful to staff and students from Boroughbridge High School for taking part and also for the support we have received from Mark Lancaster".

Dianne Adams, Head of Human Resources, will be presenting certificates to the students.  She said:  "We had some excellent entries and it was hard to get down to the winning entry.  These students are to be congratulated for their high quality design work.  There are tremendous opportunities in local government and we hope to see some of the students applying for jobs with the council in the future."  ENDS

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY:  2.00 pm Tuesday, 12 December 2006 Colour It In,
Unit 1, Hydro Business Park, Ripon Road, Harrogate.  Students will see their designs as they are being produced.
