3 JANUARY 2007 - ASPIRING artistes and sporting
stars of the future are being invited to apply for a grant from
Harrogate Borough Council's 2007 Centenary Grants
awards. Set up to celebrate the council's
centenary in 1984, many hundreds of talented young people have
benefited from this fund.
The council is seeking nominations from young district
residents aged under 25 who have a talent in sport or the
arts.
Since the awards started in 1984, nearly 450 talented
individuals have benefited with many young participants going on to
compete at a national level. Last year, the
youngest recipient was a 10-year-old rhythmic gymnast and dance
student, who competed in the national grades finals for rhythmic
gymnastics. In all, 35 talented young performers
were awarded a total of £3,500 last year to help them
progress in their chosen pursuits. All eligible
young residents are urged to make an application.
Application forms for this year's grants can be obtained from
Heads of PE or Musical Departments in local schools also libraries,
leisure centres or from Leilah Vyner, Project Development Officer,
Department of Community Services on 01423 556702.
Forms will be available from the 8 January 2007 and must be
returned to Leilah Vyner at Harrogate Borough Council by Monday 12
February 2007. The applications will be
considered in March by two specialist panels - one covering the
arts and the other sporting applications.
