22 JANUARY 2006 - USED to running up hill and down dale
has helped Allen Bush from Pateley Bridge take first prize in an
unusual fitness challenge. Staff from Harrogate
Borough Council's Brimhams Fitness Centres joined forces with Up
& Running from Station Parade, Harrogate to promote running for
fitness by organising an 8k-treadmill challenge.
As the fastest runner - in just 27 minutes 46 seconds - Allen
will now get the chance to collect his choice of running shoes up
to a value of £70 as well as a free gait analysis donated by
Up & Running.
Gait analysis examines a person's running style to make sure
they are training in the right footwear to prevent injury and is
available at all 21 Up & Running Stores nationwide, including
Harrogate, Leeds City Centre, Leeds Headingley and York.
The treadmill challenge was held at Brimhams in the Harrogate
Hydro, Ripon Leisure Centre and Nidderdale Pool and Leisure
Centre. As well as Allen's win, other entrants
went into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher to be spent at Up
& Running.
Andy Hawkswell, Duty Manager at Nidderdale says the challenge
was a great success. He said:
"The treadmill is just one way of keeping fit or getting
fit. We can also offer much more in our state of
the art fitness suites. Qualified staff are
trained to help an individual get the most out of their visits to
the fitness centres as well as offering advice on how they can
actively take up sport like competitive running or just running for
pleasure."
