Smokefree Harrogate District

Harrogate & District became smokefree on July 1st 2007 when the Smokefree Regulations came into force. This means that virtually all workplaces and substantially enclosed public areas in England are now smokefree by law.

This includes offices, factories, shops, pubs, bars and restaurants, membership clubs, public transport and work vehicles (if used by more than one person).

Smokefree premises and vehicles are required to display no smoking signs. Guidance and specifications for where signs need to be displayed can be found within these Regulations.

If you are a local business and you have specific questions you can call Customer Services on 0845 300 6091. We will try to answer your question or refer you to someone who can. We can also arrange for a visit to your business to discuss any aspects of the Smokefree regulations.

Smokefree Planning

If you are considering erecting a smoking shelter, or other such structure, initially please see our guidance note. If you need further information relating to advice or planning for smoking structures, contact Customer Services on 0845 300 6091.

If your enquiry for a Smoking structure is part of a more complex planning application, you should contact the Council's Planning Department on 01423 556666.

Support for Employees who want to stop smoking !

As a result of smokefree legislation, you may have employees who wish to stop smoking. The NHS can work with your business if you would like to support your employees to give up smoking. A free local NHS stop smoking service is available and can be accessed by calling 0845 8770025.
