Accessing council services made easier in Mashamshire
31 JULY 2007 - RESIDENTS
living in Mashamshire don't have to rely on car or public
transport if they want to access council services.
Staff in the Mashamshire Community Office
are being fully trained to help people find information they need
about both district and county council services.
The community office which opened in 2003 and is located in
the old Police Station in Little Market Place, Masham is going from
strength to strength.
Judi Major, Manager Community Office, said:
"Whilst we have always had a lot of information on offer at the
office, this is a pilot scheme to help people living in this rural
community find out anything they need to know about public services
without travelling the 23 miles to Harrogate town.
"If they want to know about planning applications, rubbish
collection, recycling or pest control information, apply for school
admissions, funding for voluntary groups or even find out about
walking routes through some of their own beautiful countryside, it
is all on offer at the office via electronic communications,
particularly the internet."
Councillor Les Ellington, Cabinet Member for Public Protection
and Rural Affairs, said: "This is another
example of Harrogate Borough Council's commitment to helping those
in rural areas. It is a significant step towards
saving time for customers, cutting down miles travelled and
improving customer satisfaction. If the pilot is
a success we intend to make this a permanent
feature". ENDS
