8 August 2007: - Live music, kids' activities,
competitions and of course lots of organic produce means that this
year's annual Allotment Show is sure to be as successful as
ever.
The event, which will take place between 11.00 am and 4.30 pm,
at the Sun Pavilion, Valley Gardens, Harrogate on Sunday, 19 August
2007 is being jointly organised by the Harrogate and District
Allotments and Gardens' Federation and Harrogate Borough
Council. Smart and Cook Insurance Group are
proud to be the main sponsor this year.
This year is the 47th Show and is set to be the biggest yet
with many of the district's allotment holders attending to show off
the fruits of their labours. This Show is a
chance for them to demonstrate the pleasures of having an allotment
and to raise awareness of their benefits. There
will be a Gardeners' Question Time and numerous stalls
selling honey, plants, flowers, books and organic gardening
produce, alongside children's events making it an exciting day out
for the whole family. There will be home baking,
smoothies and preserves on sale as well as a raffle and tombola
with some great prizes.
"There really is something for everyone at this year's show"
said Councillor Pat Jones, Cabinet Member for Cultural
Services: "The council's Environment team will
be providing information on renewable energy and Taylors Tea,
promoting their cone exchange, will be on hand alongside The Mane
Hair Salon and Claro Marine Modellers."
With live music from the Dixieland Jazz Quartet, afternoon
teas on the Sun Pavilion's terraces, and plenty for children, it's
a day you can't afford to miss especially as the exhibits will be
auctioned off at the end of the show!
Although entrance to the show is free, the organisers are
raising funds for Henshaws Society for Blind People, so please come
along and give your support.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: At 12.00pm on Sunday
19 August, the Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Cllr Cliff
Trotter will open the fruit and vegetable show in the Sun
Pavilion.
