Harrogate Borough Council celebrated 10 years of Landlord Forums by holding a mini trade fair at Ascot House Hotel in November 2008, which featured 14 stands ranging from Trading Standards to Electrical Safety. Due to its success and positive feedback from landlords and exhibitors, we decided to build on that success to plan a larger trade fair for 2009.
On September 8 2009,the Council in partnership with the National
Landlords Association held its second trade fair at the Friends
Meeting House in Harrogate.
The event had 28 exhibitors ranging from the Residential Property Tribunal and the Health and Safety Executive to the North Yorkshire Credit Union.
In addition to the stands, four workshop sessions were run during the day covering subjects such as tax management, which in particular proved to be popular with landlords.
It was pleasing to see that our landlords and letting agents continued to give their support to the event and it was also encouraging to see landlords from outside our immediate district in attendance.
The Health and Safety Executive has issued a gas safety alert to raise awareness of the potential danger of some flues located on internal walls connected to gas boilers. The risk comes from a particular kind of flue system for gas boilers, which have been most commonly installed in multi-storey apartment blocks, built since 2000. Older properties that have recently been renovated or modernised may also have gas boilers located away from an external wall with the flue running through the ceiling void or other enclosure.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced a new one stop shop gas safety website for landlords. (Opens in a new window)
