Councillor Elwyn Hinchcliffe, who represented Lower Nidderdale
on the council, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday,
17 November. Elwyn was nearing completion of a
four year stint on the authority.
Leader of Harrogate Borough Council Councillor Mike Gardner
has led tributes
to "an excellent councillor" who worked with enthusiasm for
his constituents, adding his untimely death was a tragic
loss. The Leader said Councillor Hinchcliffe had
that happy knack of immediately connecting with people without
overwhelming them.
At their meeting this week members of the planning Committee,
along with officers, stood in silent memory of their fellow
committee member.
Elwyn's funeral will take place on Tuesday, 27 November at 12
noon in Hampsthwaite Parich Church, Church Lane, with family
flowers only and any donations in lieu, to either St Michael's
Hospice or Marie Curie Cancer Care.
