Harrogate Borough Council's Cabinet decided on 23 July 2008 not to progress proposals to provide a skate park in Harrogate town.
None of the existing sites were found suitable in light of objections from local residents.
Whilst the Cabinet has not closed the door on a skate park anyone bringing forward a proposal for a site must be able to demonstrate significant local support before the Council will undertake any further investigations in order to avoid a waste of taxpayers' money.
Council Leader, Cllr Mike Gardner, said: "We have made a commitment to provide a skate park and we have still got that commitment. But we did not think any of the three new identified sites were better than Stonefall so at the moment it is on hold.
"We appreciate that there will be some young people who are disappointed but that there will also be some residents who are relieved."
