Plans on display for improvements to Knaresborough riverside

22 September 2008 PLANS to open up the views for Viaduct Terrace along Knaresborough's famous and much photographed riverside are going on public display.

Renaissance Knaresborough, working alongside Harrogate Borough Council, is proposing to open up the views of the river and provide new York stone paving; new railings and benches.   The final plans are now being put on show for the public to comment on until Friday 3 October they will remain on show until 13 October.

The project is being delivered with financial support from Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Market Programme and is part of a larger scheme known locally as "improving the Knaresborough offer".

Knaresborough was chosen as a Renaissance Market Town in 2004 and Gordon Renton, Chair of regeneration partnership Renaissance Knaresborough hopes that anyone with an interest in the town will visit the plans at Knaresborough House and Knaresborough Library and make their comments known.  He said: "We have seen some real progress this year with support for a number of projects, including restoration of Horseshoe Field Bridge, the Town Windows' project and improvements to Bebra Gardens.

"The partnership aims to continue this success with these plans to improve the Viaduct Terrace and other waterside improvements.  The larger scheme includes property improvement grants for town centre businesses and welcome to excellence training courses for businesses to improve their customer care."

The 'improving the offer' package has been developed with support from Harrogate Borough Council, Knaresborough Town Council and Knaresborough Chamber of Trade.

It is anticipated that work will begin on site in mid to late November.
