Knaresborough firm wins contract to enhance Knaresborough riverside
DATE PRESS RELEASE ISSUED: 19 November
2008
Local firm Houseman and Falshaw have won the contract to
enhance the waterside viewing terrace on Knaresborough's famous
riverside walk.
Work will start on Monday, 24 November 2008 and the plans
include an upgrade of the existing viewing terrace and the
provision of new seating. The Terrace will be
closed during the contract.
The project is being delivered with financial support from
Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Market Programme and is part of a
larger regeneration programme for Knaresborough known as "Improving
the Offer". This package has been developed by
Renaissance Knaresborough with support from Harrogate Borough
Council and other key partners.
Harrogate Borough Council will manage this riverside
enhancement contract, which is due to complete in March 2009.
Gordon Renton, Chair of Renaissance Knaresborough wants to
thank everyone who commented when the plans were being
developed. He said: "This is
an exciting project and I am extremely pleased that local people
have taken time to give their views, including the Town Council and
Chamber of Trade, and that a local firm has won the
contract. We are confident that this work will
be completed on time and to high standards. Work
should be finished by March next year just in time for the new
spring and summer tourist season.
"Many thousands of people enjoy the riverside views all year
round and for local people it is a lovely place to bring the
children to feed the ducks and enjoy their own
surroundings. This enhancement work should lead
to more people enjoying what Knaresborough has to
offer." ENDS
