Harrogate Borough Council supported by Claro Orienteering Club has provided three permanent orienteering courses found at Valley Gardens, Pinewoods and Birk Crag.  These courses have been planned as short (at the top end of Valley Gardens), middle (stretching through the Pinewoods) and long (for more experienced orienteerers at Birk Crag).

Map packs are available all year round from the Tourist Information Office and throughout the summer season, the Games in Parks Hut in Valley Gardens. 

Spring/Summer events

We refer to these as SOSO events - Street and Open Space Orienteering.
 
SOSO1 - West Park Stray & Valley Gardens - 5th  June 2010
SOSO2 - Bilton - 19th June 2010
SOSO3 - Knaresborough town centre - 3rd July 2010
SOSO4 - Hookstone Woods - 17th July 2010

All of these are suitable for families, for runners and for more serious 'athletes' with a range of courses to suit.

We also have a regional street race in Ripon on 23rd May 2010.
