Pests & Animal Nuisances

Pest Control team will treat rodents, insects and (if inside a house) squirrels. This is a not-for-profit paid for service that is available as either a one-off or under contract to both businesses and domestic proprieties with a persistent pest problem.

Dead Animals that are larger mammals (from cats upwards) will be removed from public land and streets. As will large birds.

Bird Flu: If you find more than 10 dead birds in the same place you are encouraged to read the DEFRA guidelines and contact the DEFRA Helpline on 0845 9 33 55 77.

Dangerous, Exotic or Wild Animals that are a potential nuisance have to have a license for their owners from the council.

Noise Nuisance from animals (eg, barking dogs) can cause health issues and/or cause an unreasonable and persistent disturbance to your lifestyle. Environmental Protection officers can take action to stop such nuisances.

Stray Dogs can represent a nuisance to a neighbourhood. Dog Wardens will collect stray dogs and return them to their owner at a charge (plus kennelling fees).

Dog Fouling is a health risk, especially to young children. Dog Wardens patrol known fouling hot-spots and respond to reports from members of the public.

Note that under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949, residents have a duty to keep their own property free of pests. The council provides a Pest Control service to support the public health of the district.
