Smokefree: Vehicles
An enclosed vehicle needs to be smokefree if it is used:
- By members of the public, whether or
not they pay
- In the course of paid or voluntary work by
more than one person, even if the persons who work there do so at
different times or intermittently
Note: Smoke free vehicles are required to be smokefree at all
times.
Taxis, Minicabs and Private Hire vehicles
The legislation covers all taxis and minicabs. Any commercial
vehicles carrying members of the public will be required to be
smokefree at all times.
Requirements
- To display no smoking signs in a prominent
position in all vehicles which needs to include
the international red no smoking symbol
- Take reasonable steps to ensure that
employees and customers are aware that vehicles used for public
transport are legally required to be smokefree.
Note:
- Drivers cannot
smoke in their vehicles even if they don't have any
passengers. They must keep their vehicles smokefree at all times.
Tobacco smoke is absorbed into soft furnishings and stays around
for weeks after a cigarette is stubbed out, releasing hazardous
particles
