Smokefree: Pubs and Clubs
All pubs, social clubs, working men's clubs,
private members clubs, social and sports clubs, are covered by the
Smokefree legislation.
Designated "Smoking Areas" in such premises are not allowed.
Pubs and Clubs with Overnight Accommodation
If overnight accommodation is
provided, bedrooms may be designated for smoking, but
all other parts of the premises must be smokefree.
A bedroom can be designated for smoking if it:
- Is used exclusivley for sleeping
accommodation
- Has been designated in writing by the
person in charge of the premises.
- Has a ceiling and, except for doors and
windows, is completely enclosed on all sides by solid, floor to
ceiling walls
- Does not have a ventilation system that
ventilates into other parts of the premises, except any other
designated bedrooms to prevent smoke drift
- Has self-closing doors where any door
opens into a smokefree area
- Is clearly marked as a bedroom in which
smoking is permitted
What if my home is above the pub or club, does it have to be
smokefree?
No. The legislation does not cover private dwellings.
