Recycling

The Government wants to reduce the use of landfill sites and has set tough targets for councils to save the environment and our natural resources. In the Harrogate District, we met our 21% target for 2005/06 and are striving to improve in future years.

To meet these targets the Council will need to build on the established network of bring recycling centres and kerbside recycling schemes.

There are facilities in the Harrogate District for the public to recycle:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Mixed cans
  • Junk mail
  • Books
  • Textiles, including shoes
  • Plastic bottles

Christmas

You can find tips on Christmas recycling as well as recipes using your Christmas leftovers.

Christmas cards can be recycled at participating branches of Marks & Spencer, TK Maxx, Tesco and WH Smith.

Christmas trees can be taken to either of the Household Waste & Recycling Centres at Wetherby Road or Dalamires Lane. Alternatively, they can be cut up and left out for collection with your garden waste.
