| To maintain the high standard of environment the Council's Heritage and Design Team has produced design guidance which has been approved as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) to the Harrogate District Local Plan and which should be read in conjunction with it. |
In addition, Development Control Guidance has been produced by the Planning Policy Team covering: Affordable Housing, Parking requirements, Residential conversion, the control of demolition in Conservation Areas, developer contributions to education facilities and the protection of community facilities. These documents are available from the Development Control Guidance page. The Planning Policy Team has also produced Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) to the Harrogate District Local Development Framework (LDF)(the replacement to the Local Plan).
This comprehensive assessment, approved as Supplementary

High quality traditional shopfronts survive in the main towns of Harrogate District. The Council's policy is to retain these and to ensure a high standard of design in new shopfronts. This guidance amplifies Local Plan policies and does not seek to lay down over-rigid rules or to stifle genuine innovation. (Note: we are unable to offer any shopfront grants.)
