Accidents & Emergencies
In the event of an emergency or a warning of a potential
emergency the website will be updated as appropriate, and will be
an important means of keeping people advised.
The Council has established an Emergency Planning Section to
prepare contingency plans based on a range of risks and potential
emergencies to ensure that its statutory obligations and the care
of the community are met. These emergencies have the potential to
cause, or threaten to cause, harm and disruption to our residents,
property and our normal daily services.
The range of incidents that we may have to deal with are very
wide and varied, and may include floods, storms, terrorism, loss of
power supply, transport accidents, foot and mouth, and fuel
crises.
The work of the Section, in addition to responding to the
incident, involves the preparation and maintenance of contingency
plans, exercising these, to test them and ensure that arrangements
are in place to mount the correct response and liaising with other
agencies to ensure mutual compatibility.
A common factor in any incident is that they require a special
coordinated response from a multi-agency task force, which is above
and beyond their normal day to day working arrangements.
