Harrogate District Playing Pitch Strategy
Harrogate Borough Council launched the Harrogate District
Playing Pitch Strategy in 2004 in partnership with Strategic
Leisure Ltd and will be an active document until 2009.
The assessment undertaken and strategy developed has been
completed in accordance with the recently revised guidance,
"Towards A Level Playing Field : A Guide to the production of
Playing Pitch Strategies" published by Sport England and the
Central Council for Physical Recreation in October 2002.
The rationale for undertaking the study is to identify current
levels of provision in the District across the public, education,
voluntary and commercial sectors, and to compare this with current
and likely future levels of demand. The supply and demand analysis
will help identify the need for new pitches and also suggest where
there are too many facilities, perhaps in the wrong location. The
analysis will help underpin future planning policy and allocation,
and help to support applications for external funding.
The scope of the strategy extends to five sports, namely
Association Football, Cricket, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Hockey
and further considers the current and future provision of
artificial turf
pitches.
