LDF DPD Core Strategy

The Core Strategy will set out the vision of what Harrogate District should be like and the strategic policies for development and conservation up to 2021.
 
The Council began work on this document in 2004 and has carried out three District-wide consultations on the Core Strategy.  Information on these consultations, (including copies of all consultation documents, background documents and notes from public consultation events) are set out in the ARCHIVE section, below.

Areas of Search for Growth around Harrogate & Knaresborough:
The Local Development Framework Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State in September 2007.  The Core Strategy sets out the direction and strategy for development and conservation in the District up to 2021 and beyond.  All but one* aspect of the Core Strategy were the subject of public examination hearings during April and May 2008.
 
*The one aspect of the Core Strategy yet to be heard at public examination is in connection with the "Areas of Search for Growth around Harrogate & Knaresborough".  At an exploratory meeting of the Harrogate Core Strategy Examination on 26 March 2008 the Inspector suspended this part of the Examination to allow further work to be carried out to underpin this aspect of the Core Strategy. 
 
Consultation on the "Harrogate & Knaresborough Urban Extension Study (Vol.2) took place between 11 July and 22 August 2008. The Report of Consultation (1.5Mb) contains a summary of all the consultation responses received within the consultation period.
 
Copies of all the consultation responses are set out in the table below.  The pdf files are necessarily large and have been grouped into ZIP files (Windows XP/Vista inlcude support to open ZIP files automatically).  Please refer to the Index of Representors (152kb) to find the reference number for the response you would like to view.
 
The Examination for this part of the Core Strategy will resume on 16 and 17 October 2008.

The LDF Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State on 7 September 2007.  Representations have been received and the Council's 'Regulation 31 Statement' (233kb) summarises the main issues raised by them.
Submission Core Strategy
The Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State on 7 September 2007.  The consultation period ran until 19 Oct 07.  Objecting and supporting representations will be considered by an Independent Inspector either by written representations or attendance at the Examination into the Core Strategy that commences on 22 April 2008.
