Swimming and Leisure Pools
Harrogate Borough Council enforce health and safety legislation in most swimming and leisure pools within the district which are not run by the Local Authority.
A booklet has been produced entitled A guide to the health and safety of pool users and staff in swimming and leisure pools.
It is written for employers or others in charge of operating pools and is intended where appropriate to give guidance on some of the legal requirements covered by health and safety legislation.
The guide is split into several sections and looks at the key issues in relation to pool management. If you are a pool operator it will assist you in meeting some of the legal duties under health and safety law.
How can you help pool operators to keep their pools clean
If you are a pool user, dont forget the basic rules to help pool operators to manage their pool water effectively.
- DON'T SWIM IF YOU HAVE HAD SYMPTOMS OF A STOMACH UPSET IN THE LAST 48 HRS
- Shower prior to entering the pool
- don't wear outdoor shoes on poolside
- Make use of the toilet and wash your hands before you enter the pool
- Ensure babies and children who are not toilet trained wear swimming nappies whilst in the pool
