Forward plan of key decisions

Go straight to published Forward Plan

Executive decisions which fall into the categories detailed below are classed as key decisions.  The Council is obliged to publish details of the key decisions which are to be taken by cabinet or individual cabinet members, and details of these are shown in the forward plan.  Chief officers are also able to take key decisions, but this happens rarely.

Every month on this website the Council publishes the current Forward Plan  which details the key decisions scheduled to be taken in the following 4 months.

What is a key decision?

The Council has fixed the following thresholds for deciding whether an executive decision is a key decision, they must involve
  • revenue expenditure of £100,000 or more,
  • savings of £50,000 or more,
  • capital expenditure of £250,000 or more
or be
  • decisions made by the Chief Executive, in exercise of emergency powers only, £300,000 or
  • be decisions which will have a significant effect on communities living or working in one ward of the district.
Key decisions can be subject to the call-in procedure.

Only urgent key decisions are not subject to the call-in procedure and do not have to be published in the forward plan.
