Welcome to this introduction on Renaissance Knaresborough.

We cannot hope to cover all that has happened to date or all that we hope will happen in the future.  We would like to think that it provides a simple overview.  If you would like to know more contact us through the online response form below.

What is Renaissance Knaresborough?

'Renaissance Knaresborough' is an organisation set up to identify, develop and deliver projects to improve the town of Knaresborough.

It is carrying forward ideas that emerged from a series of community conferences held in the town over the past two years.

The Renaissance Market Towns (RMT) programme was launched in Knaresborough in 2004 and an RMT Delivery Plan was developed which represents the aspirations of the town over the coming 25 years.

Renaissance Knaresborough was formed from the merger of the RMT Town Team and the Knaresborough Regeneration Partnership.  It has a broad membership drawn from local organisations and individuals.  Involvement in the work of Renaissance Knaresborough is open to anyone who is enthusiastic and supportive of the town.

What is Renaissance Knaresborough trying to achieve?

Six themed groups have been established by Renaissance Knaresborough members to cover issues relating to:
  • the local community;
  • business and commerce;
  • transport;
  • sport, culture, leisure and heritage;
  • the built environment; and
  • tourism.
From this broad range, a number of exciting projects are now being taken forward:
  • an Arts Strategy for the town.  This is looking at the feasibility of a North Yorkshire Visual Arts Centre; the development of public art and festivals in Knaresborough;
  • 'Improving the Offer' package including: public realm improvements; property improvement grant scheme for commercial town centre properties; and customer care courses.
  • improvements at Knaresborough Riverside;
  • the refurbishment of the Frazer Theatre;
  • Youth activities in Knaresborough including work on a 3D virtual tour of Knaresborough Castle, a film-making project and development of a Shadow Youth Town Team;
  • Town Windows or 'Trompe L'Oeil' in the town;
  • support for improvements at Bebra Gardens.

Renaissance Knaresborough is working enthusiastically to deliver each of these projects and to maximise investment from both the public and private sector.

With the implementation of these projects it is felt that a significant improvement can be made in the economy, appearance and confidence of Knaresborough.
