Renaissance Market Towns Programme

Launched in July 2002 by the Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward, the Renaissance Market Towns Programme (RMT) is a pioneering 10-year plan to support sustainable small towns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Renaissance Market Towns aim to ensure that the regions 'rural capitals' are places where people want and are able to live, work, invest and visit.

Two towns within Harrogate district, namely Knaresborough and Boroughbridge, were identified for inclusion in the RMT programme in the second round of towns, launched in 2004. Town Teams were established in both towns involving representatives of the local community who worked alongside consultants to prepare Delivery Plans. These were designed as 25 year visions and are now being taken forward by the partnership structures that developed from this process, namely Renaissance Knaresborough and Yore Vision.
