5 August 2008 Residents in remote rural areas can
have different needs to their urban counterparts in terms of
keeping their property safe, which is why a new partnership Safer
Nidderdale is being launched.
The aim is to hold a series of community events between now
and Christmas where local residents, farmers and other businesses
can get help and advice. They will also hear
from responsible authorities about what action is being taken to
keep Nidderdale a safe place to live and work.
The launch will take place between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm on
Saturday,
16 August in the mobile police office and fire safety vehicle,
which will be stationed for the morning on the Southlands car park
in Pateley Bridge.
Members of the partnership, including North Yorkshire Police,
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Neighbourhood Watch,
Harrogate District Safer Communities Partnership and the Nidderdale
Plus Partnership will be available to give help and advice on a
range of community and home safety issues.
Cllr Les Ellington, the Chair of the Harrogate District Safer
Communities Partnership and the Mayor of Pateley Bridge said: " I
am delighted that organisations are working together for the
benefit of our community. This is an excellent
example of how partnerships can help to get things
done. We want residents to pop in and get to
know the agencies working in their area."
Safer Nidderdale is a new partnership funded by Harrogate
District Safer Communities Partnership.
Representatives will be taking part in the Nidderdale Show so that
they can reach as wide an audience as possible.
Crime prevention information will be distributed and people can
sign up for crime prevention surveys as well as getting some home
fire safety advice. SmartWater will also be on
sale.
"This is a forensic fluid containing millions of microscopic
particles that make up an individual property identification code,
added Councillor Ellington. "Basically,
SmartWater provides Police with a liquid DNA.
The solution is painted onto household items and leaves a forensic
fingerprint encoded with the owner's details, which is virtually
impossible to remove. By displaying the
SmartWater warning labels you will let criminals know that your
property is protected."
Other events that are in the process of being planned include
attending farmers' auctions to provide farmers with essential
security advice and also advice will be given to shoppers around
the Christmas period regarding fire safety, personal and property
security. ENDS
