11 August 2008: IT'S party time in
Jennyfields. Teenagers who have helped develop Harrogate
Borough Council's first ever playground for older children are
being invited to a party to celebrate its opening.
All other children living in or near to Jennyfields aged
between 10 and 16 are invited to come along as well. There'll
be cakes, balloons and games organised by the council's Play
Rangers.
The party will be held on Friday, 22 August between 12.30 pm
and 2.30 pm, the ribbon cutting ceremony will be performed by
Councillor John Fox, Mayor of the Borough of
Harrogate. Councillor Pat Jones, Cabinet Member for Cultural
Services, will be cutting a decorated celebration cake.
Jennyfields is the first area in the Harrogate district to
have a playground dedicated to older children. Similar
projects in Boroughbridge and Knaresborough will follow and the
council will also be enhancing children's play areas in Bewerley,
Glasshouses, Grantley, Kirkby Malzeard, Minskip and Ripon.
Earlier this year, Harrogate Borough Council was granted over
£255,000 from the BIG Lottery Fund's Children's Play
Programme to develop exciting play facilities and over
£60,000 has been used to build this new play area on the
Jennyfield recreation ground.
The scheme has been designed by Husson UK and includes
challenging equipment with a large climbing frame, a twin fly (a
rotating piece for two people), a rowing machine and fitness
equipment, permanent football goals, and table football.
