Owner of 20 year old unfinished bungalow in Darley must complete it by 2009
16 September 2008 - RESIDENTS
in Darley near Harrogate have welcomed news this week that
the owner of a twenty-year old unfinished home in Silverdale Close
must now complete it by October 2009 or see the planning permission
elapse.
The news comes after the Secretary of State confirmed a
completion notice served by Harrogate Borough Council in April this
year.
Councillor Don Mackenzie, Cabinet Member for Planning, says it
is in the owner's interests to get on and finish the building that
he first started work on in 1987. He
said: "The original planning permission was for
a four-bedroom chalet-style bungalow with a lower ground floor
garage. Although a local builder was contracted
to build the shell and earlier pressure by the council saw a roof
put on the property, it is now some 17 years since any work was
carried out to it.
"We believe it was the owner's intention to complete the
building himself but the property has been pretty much abandoned
and left to deteriorate over a period of almost twenty
years. Not only is this property a blight in a
very pleasant village, residents are also concerned about the
safety of children playing on this unsecured
site. We do hope that the owner will now take
some action, either to complete the bungalow or to sell it on so as
to remove a long-standing eyesore."
