Serena Partridge is a textile artist from Norton/Malton.
Serena's inspiration is drawn mainly from historical fashion, which
she distorts in scale and proportion to produce curious objects
with fictional labels.
Cabinets of Curiosity, 2001, her first exhibition, toured
widely in the UK.
Serena was captivated by her first visit to the Royal Pump
Room Museum, finding it bursting with inspiration. She said, 'I
was fascinated to read about the many famous visitors to Harrogate,
including Agatha Christie and the Russian royals. I want to explore
so many aspects of the museum collections... the town's spa
history, the costume, ephemera such as letters, photographs and
newspaper cuttings.'
Serena will be working with the museum and its collections
throughout the year. During her residency, she will give occasional
talks and workshops, and she will set up her studio in the museum
for a short period.
Other Inspired by Heritage artists will be working at Newby
Hall, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Malham Tarn and Field
Studies Centre, Rosedale Abbey and the Whitby Museum.
The programme has been developed as part of the Art
Connections project and is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn
Foundation, Harrogate Borough Council and Chrysalis Arts
Development.
