Closing in on housing benefit fraud
We're closing in on benefit fraud as part of a national
anti-fraud campaign launched by the Department for Works and
Pensions.

We are letting everyone know there is a dedicated anti fraud
hotline to report possible benefit fraud. We're also handing out
posters and flyers throughout the district.
The benefit system exists to help the most vulnerable in society
and the vast majority of people who claim benefits are honest. At a
time when everyone wants taxes kept to a minimum, benefit fraud is
an expense on the taxpayer we just don't need.
The council has a dedicated team of fraud officers who
investigate suspected cases of benefit fraud. The council's fraud
Investigators work actively to pursue serious offences through the
criminal courts.
You can call the fraud hotline on 01423 55 64 66. You do not
need to give your name or contact details and you can be sure we
will follow up all our leads.
You can
print off a copy of the
poster (pdf, opens in new window) and let even more people know
we're closing in on benefit fraud in Harrogate district.
