Following adoption of the Council's
Core Strategy the Council is planning for the construction of about 390 new dwellings per year up to 2023/24. Most of this growth will take place in Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon but there will also need to be growth in the rural areas. The preferred sites for growth in the District's rural areas, and preferred development limits to constrain the growth of settlements, were shown in the four 'consultation newspapers' which can be downloaded below.

Development Limits
To protect land from inappropriate settlement growth into the countryside, the Council has drawn a line around the existing (and any extended) built-up areas of many settlements in the District. This line is called a "development limit". You can view the proposed Development Limits by looking at the Consultation Newspapers (See links above).
Affordable Housing Policy
As part of the Rural Areas Consultation the Council also sought views on affordable housing policy. You can read more about this by opening one of the Consultation Newspapers (see links above).
