Improvements to council housing

Unlike the day-to-day repairs you would report to us, the work we do to modernise and improve your homes follows a plan, based on the council's housing quality standard.

Major improvements are things like:

  • a new kitchen layout with new units
  • a new bathroom suite
  • a replacement heating system
  • a new boiler
  • new external doors and/or windows
  • new wiring to the whole house
  • a new roof
  • new rendering of external walls or
  • full repointing of brickwork or stone walls

If your home is due to have major improvements done, we'll send you a letter telling you what we plan to do and, if the work is to the inside your home, we'll ask if you'd like to have the work done or not.

If you'd like to go ahead, one of our surveyors will arrange to survey your home and discuss the work with you, offering you choices where they're available, such as worktop and kitchen unit colours.

We typically improve 400 to 600 a year, so please bear with us if there's a long delay between your letter and a surveyor contacting you.
