The Harrogate district cycle forum is a partnership group whose focus is to achieve this vision -"to have more people of all ages cycling more often, in a district that is easy and safe to get around by bike".
The forum has representatives from various organisations and individuals with an interest in cycling.
Regular contributors include: Harrogate Borough Council planning, and culture, tourism and sports, Cycle Yorkshire, Sustrans, and North Yorkshire County Council highways and transportation. Also involved are local employers, the local cycling industry (cycle traders, bike shops, repairs and training services), workplace cyclist representatives and cycling campaign representatives.
The forum's main aims are to:
- consult on the future development of cycling facilities, comment on and influence council policies, strategies and plans, including spending decisions that impact on cyclists and the cycle infrastructure
- monitor and review the condition of cycle routes and new cycle schemes
- promote and encourage responsible cycling in and around the district, working with all authorities and stakeholders
- educate and advise on cycling issues, share information and support cycle training
As well as identifying and consulting on new cycle routes, the forum will be developing a proposal to work with the government on its forthcoming cycling delivery plan. If successful, this should offer a vital opportunity to attract national funding to provide Harrogate and Knaresborough with much needed cycling infrastructure.
