As an established supporter of the Harrogate Advertiser Business Awards, Harrogate Borough Council would like to extend congratulations to all this year's nominees and winners.

Directly supporting businesses with growth ambitions is at the core of our Economic Growth Strategy for the Harrogate district 2017-2035. Join us at the Yorkshire Business Market in the Aire Room, Pavilions of Harrogate on Monday 30 April 2018 to find out how the council and its partners can help your business.

The council's Growth Manager, Alistair Forbes, will be in attendance to discuss business support, funding and grant options available. As part of our delivery of targeted business support in the district, some of the help you could access includes: grants, loans and support from the LEP and other finance providers to expand and develop your workforce, help your company break into export markets and get more from the internet for your business development. In addition to advice, research capabilities and funding to develop products, processes and put new ideas into practice and reduce costs to your business by becoming more resource efficient.

Other business startup experts joining us on the day include Digital Advantage, Digital Knowledge Exchange, Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, North Yorkshire Adult Learning and Skills Service, North Yorkshire Trading Standards, Harrogate College, Ad:Venture, York Science Park and Product and Process Innovation (University of York).

Support the Harrogate District Local Plan and support lower cost homes for local people, and more space for businesses to grow and stay local

The council has prepared the publication version of the Harrogate District Local Plan and is now seeking views and support before submitting it to the government.

Feedback taken from local businesses highlighted two themes the Local Plan could be used to address:

  1. housing is expensive locally and this is a barrier to recruiting staff and
  2. the availability of land for business expansion has been low and this means local businesses have to look outside the district if they want to grow

The Local Plan, which meets local needs up to 2035, addresses both these issues by allocating a minimum of 38ha of new land for employment purposes and providing for 14,049 new homes in the district with a focus on affordable and smaller market housing for first time buyers and families.

Show your support by responding to the consultation at GS1 - providing new homes and jobs - adding your comments and support for the plan.

Hear what Bryn Sage from Intechnology PLC and Julie Stephenson from Harrogate College have to say about why the plan is good for local businesses.
