We offer small emergency repair loans to homeowners and tenants who have obligations to repair their properties.
The loans of up to £5,000 are interest free and cover the cost of essential and urgent repairs or maintenance work. You must repay the loan when the property is sold or transferred.
We also administer the disabled facilities grant. If you, or a member of your family, has a disability which makes managing everyday living difficult, it might be possible to help you by altering or adapting your home. Subject to assessment and a financial test, you may be entitled to a grant to cover or help with the cost of the work.
We don't currently offer any other grants for improvements, repairs or regeneration.
Our private sector renewal team is able to give general advice to homeowners and tenants about carrying out repairs, improvement works or disabled people's adaptations and can offer a free home maintenance inspection to homeowners to advise them about any essential work that's needed.
You may also be able to get support and advice about carrying out work or finding other funding options.
If you rent your home privately, major repairs are generally the landlord's responsibility. However, as a tenant, you also have rights and obligations when it comes to repairs. For more information, visit the GOV.UK.
