Tour de Yorkshire small grant fund 2018 is now closed for applications

The grant fund opportunity

To celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire Cycle Race 2018 Harrogate Borough Council have created a grant fund to award grants of up to £1,000 (maximum) to projects across the district which will celebrate the tour in an appropriate way - there is £10,000 available in this grant funding pot.

Applications are to be submitted between 5 February - 12 March 2018.
All applications will be assessed together after the closing date and applicants will be informed by 23 March 2018.

The maximum grant fund for this project is £10,000.

Priority will be given to applications received from those areas that are on the Tour de Yorkshire route. The full route can be viewed at

We aim to support a number of projects run by groups within the community that will embrace the Tour de Yorkshire and maximise the potential, economic, and tourism impact of the race traveling through our district.

The projects must be one off, have no on-going running costs and commence after 10 April 2018 and be completed by the end of August 2018.

Who can apply?

Project proposals are welcome from parish/town councils, voluntary and community groups and schools that are active within the community. Projects are welcomed from umbrella groups set up to celebrate the tour but proposals must be submitted on the group's behalf by a formally constituted group or school.

The eligibility criteria are listed below:

  • you must be a parish/town council or a formally constituted voluntary or community group (this evidence must be provided within the submission) or school
  • you must have a bank or building society account with two signatories (not related or living together)
  • projects must benefit the community locally
  • project expenditure cannot be for items that have already been purchased

Partnership bids must be able to demonstrate the commitment of all parties to the proposal (for example via minutes of a meeting etc)

The grant allocation process

We don't want to make the process complicated as the grants will be relatively small but can make a big difference within a community. To be considered for funding applicants are asked to outline what they wish to do with the funding in no more than 250 words within the project proposal form.

Application criteria

A grants panel will assess all the project proposals together and choose the projects that can evidence community participation.

The panel will aim to ensure a geographical spread of awards is made across the district, but priority will be given to those areas that are on the Tour de Yorkshire route.

What can't be funded?

  • on-going or general commitments and running costs such as salaries/other employee costs, statutory training, rent, rates etc
  • work which has already taken place
  • grants to individuals
  • building renovations
  • general appeals or sponsorship
  • clothing and uniforms
  • prize money/funds
  • activities of a religious nature
  • activities of a political nature
  • insurance costs

*Please note: applicants may be required to provide evidence that all necessary permissions are in place so that the proposals can be delivered; this might be approval to use private or public land, granting of any necessary licences etc. Funding is subject to confirmation that these permissions are in place.

Payment of grants

The grant will usually be paid in full in arrears, following receipt of the claim form. However, in certain circumstances, it may be possible for the grant to be paid in advance and you should discuss this requirement when applying. All expenditure will need to be accounted for in the final monitoring report.
