We've taken the decision to close all of our leisure centres, swimming pools, community centres, Turkish Baths, our two museums, the Mercer art gallery and tourist information centres.
This is with effect from end of business tonight (Friday 20 March) and these buildings will remain closed until further notice. The decision is in line with updated government guidance and reflects the need for us to do what we can to encourage greater social isolation in light of the spread of the coronavirus. If you are affected by these closures, there is no need for you to get in touch. If you are a member of our venues, having swimming or diving lessons or other regular activities, your membership will be suspended and you will not be charged for April or May. If you have existing bookings, you'll be contacted over the coming days.

- By public transport:
The museum is a leisurely 10 minute walk from the railway and bus terminals through the town centre. Cross the road from the terminals and head straight through the centre towards the war memorial. Go down Montpellier Hill at the bottom of which you can see the Crown Hotel to your right, and the White Hart Hotel ahead. The museum is by the Crown Hotel, across the roundabout and opposite the Valley Gardens
- By road:
Brown signs on the A61 and A59 will guide you towards the museum. Three-hour parking is available in most of the nearby roads (Swan Road, Valley Drive, Cornwall Road) but you must display a time disc in your vehicle. These are available from shops and the museum and gallery. A single parking bay for visitors with disabilities is available in Swan Road, by the Mercer Art Gallery, a short walk from the museum
