The Royal Pump Room Museum offers a distinctive, historic venue for your special event. With its unusual octagonal shape, the stunning 1842 Room provides an ideal setting for a drinks reception with canapés.
Designed by Isaac Shutt, this heritage spa building opened in 1842 to provide a stylish shelter for the rich and fashionable who came to take the waters and promenade. It was a place to see and be seen.
Extended in 1913 to provide additional space for the thousands by then flocking to the spa, the building now houses a museum telling the story of the spa from the 16th to 20th centuries. The displays include a fascinating collection of ceramics, jewellery, costume, bicycles and toys complemented by changing temporary exhibitions.
Your guests will have a chance to explore the whole building and learn about the history of this spa town. They may even get a chance to descend to the wells.
Audio visual presentations, displays and music
Depending on the number of guests at your event, it may be possible to put up some display banners and make small audiovisual presentations.
We do not provide audio-visual equipment. Please discuss your requirements at the time of booking.
We can provide suggestions for local musicians, should you require them.
The museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users with automatic front doors and accessible toilet. There is an induction loop at the entrance desk.
There is no dedicated car parking for the museum. On street free disc parking with 3 hour limit is available nearby (Hours of operation 9am – 6pm). Pay and display car park in the nearby Montpellier area (56 places, charging period 8am – midnight).

The museum is available for hire outside normal opening hours. Two members of the museum staff will be in attendance throughout.
Seated capacity: Max 80 Non-seated: Max 100/120. These are the numbers allowed by fire regulations and must not be exceeded. All fire exits must be kept clear.

A deposit of 25% is required to confirm the booking and will be returned if the booking is cancelled a month before the proposed function was to take place.
After the function you will be invoiced for the remaining 75% or you may pay on the evening using your credit/debit card or a cheque made payable to Harrogate Borough Council.
