Welcome to the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate
The Mercer Art Gallery is one of Yorkshire's most exciting galleries. You never know quite what to expect when you go through the door… great Victorian paintings from the Harrogate collection by famous names such as Atkinson Grimshaw and William Powell Frith or challenging contemporary art.
Our visitors love the Mercer Art Gallery for all sorts of reasons… it shows all kinds of art, it's not too big and there are plenty of places to sit down; it can be an oasis of calm, a place for reflection and contemplation, or an arena for excitement. You can enjoy the illuminating texts that we write about the art on show or you can sit down and browse through the books we have published about our collections. You can buy art at the Mercer and you will love our gallery shop with specially commissioned work from North Yorkshire artists.
17 June to 3 September 2017
Harrogate Open 2017
The Harrogate Open is the Mercer's answer to the Royal Academy Summer Show, when artists in the Harrogate district are invited to enter our open art competition. The selectors - artists Jake Attree and Tom Wood and curator Jane Sellars - will choose works in all media to fill the whole Mercer Art Gallery, with money prizes for the winners. Everything in the exhibition will be for sale, so get here as soon as you can to snap up a great work of art.
The Harrogate Open 2017 is sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Art Gallery.
