Jane Sellars looks back at the letters her mother wrote to her in the 1970s when she left home for University. She wrote a book about the letters which became a drama serial for BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour in 2004. Hear Jane talk about her family history and how her writing was recreated as drama.

One-hour handling sessions for groups

We want your community group to enjoy a hands-on experience that explores stories from Harrogate's history and delves into our museum collections.

We run handling sessions using our 'object boxes' with themes such as Victorian daily life, the Sixties, archaeology and Egyptology, to get you thinking, talking and discovering.

We offer bespoke themes to suit your group's interests, or you can just dive in and investigate our 'Mystery Object' boxes.

Booking

All events should be booked in advance by phoning 01423 556188, by emailing museums@harrogate.gov.uk or in person at the Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate. Dates and times may be subject to change. Please confirm details when making a booking.

Payment

All events are priced to cover costs. To confirm your place payment must be made at the time of booking. Tickets will be issued at the time of booking.

Cancellations and refunds

All cancellations must be made 14 days prior to an event to receive a refund. Refunds are only available for sums in excess of £10 due to administrative costs involved. For sums under £10, monies can be held on account against payments for future events.

Please note that all sessions are very popular, often with long reserve lists, so if you cannot attend please notify us straight away so someone else can enjoy the event. If you cancel less than 14 days before an event but we are able to find a replacement the refund policy will apply.

In the event that we have to cancel an event, monies can be held towards future events or a full refund can be provided.
