Anyone keeping a dangerous wild animal must have a licence from us.
You can find out which animals need a licence by checking the Dangerous Wild Animals Act.
More information is available from the dangerous, exotic or wild animal conditions and guidance.
Apply for a licence
Fill in the application form and send it to us with the correct fee. A council authorised vet will then carry out an inspection before a two-year licence is granted. After that, there is a two-year licence renewal fee.
First application - application fee £312.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £149.00
Renewal - application fee £312.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £115.00
Variation - application fee £150.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £64.00
Veterinary inspection is the actual cost of previous year's inspection plus inflation
New applicants (vet fee) - application fee £234.00
This means that you'll be able to act as though your application is granted if you haven't heard from us by the end of the 28-day target period. Tacit consent will only apply once a full application has been submitted and you've received an acknowledgment.
