None of the trade waste we collect from across the Harrogate district ends up in landfill.

We take everything to the Allerton waste recovery plant near Boroughbridge where materials which can be recycled are removed, organic waste is fed into an anaerobic digester and any remaining waste is turned into electricity.

The energy produced on site is enough to power 40,000 homes.

The facility opened in March 2018 and will process 320,000 tonnes of waste each year.

We are the only council to deliver direct to the plant which has cut the distance our bin wagons need to travel and, in turn, has reduced our fuel costs and vehicle emissions.
