Anyone who wants to use or hire out a pleasure boat to the public for use in non-navigable waters, such as lakes, must have a licence from us.

Fill in the application form and send it to us, together with the correct fee based on the number of boats.
New application
1 to 20 boats - application fee £129.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £72.00
21 to 40 boats - application fee £146.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £72.00
41 to 60 plus boats - application fee £167.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £90.00
Renewal application
1 to 20 boats - application fee £129.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £52.00
21 to 40 boats - application fee £142.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £57.00
41 to 60 plus boats - application fee £162.00 / ongoing administration and enforcement £68.00
Along with the application, you must also send us a certificate of compliance with the British Waterways Standards, issued by an approved marine surveyor. The pleasure boat must comply with the relevant laws which can be viewed on www.legislation.gov.uk. Licences won't be issued to anyone under 18.
Tacit consent
This means that you'll be able to act as though your application is granted if you've not heard from us by the end of the 28-day target period. Tacit consent will only apply once a full application has been submitted and you've received an acknowledgment.
