THE LOCAL LOTTO celebrates third birthday and raises more than £160,000 for local good causes

This Saturday (11 September), marks the third anniversary of the first THE LOCAL LOTTO draw, and to date has raised more than £160,000 for local good causes.

THE LOCAL LOTTO was launched by Harrogate Borough Council as a way to raise additional funds for our voluntary and community groups across the Harrogate district.

The money raised makes an important contribution towards keeping the Harrogate district's voluntary and community sector thriving, ranging from Autism Angels to Woodfield Millennium Green and everything in between. It also enables players to support the local good causes they care about most.

60p from every £1 ticket sold goes direct to local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups. Players also have the chance of winning a £25,000 jackpot plus smaller cash prizes each week.

To date, more than 1,000 players are supporting 108 good causes and have won collectively £41,475.

Councillor Sam Gibbs, chair of Harrogate Borough Council's voluntary and community sector, said: "It's an incredible achievement to raise more than £160,000 in three years, for our voluntary and community sector across the Harrogate district, through THE LOCAL LOTTO.

"These vital funds can sometimes be a lifeline for smaller community groups and I'd like to thank everyone for getting involved and signing up to play THE LOCAL LOTTO.

"It's never too late to take part, whether as an organisation or a participant, and I'd urge anyone to sign-up online."

Ripon Community Link, a good cause of THE LOCAL LOTTO, said: "Ripon Community Link is proud to be a local lotto beneficiary. The support of players who have chosen us gives a regular, reliable income stream when charitable income can be erratic, especially in such turbulent times.

"We have also been extremely fortunate to benefit from THE LOCAL FUND to help us develop our services for individuals with learning disabilities. The administration is efficient and user friendly and importantly an easy platform for donors to use, thank you!"

Low Harrogate Crown Green Bowling Club, another good cause of THE LOCAL LOTTO, said: "THE LOCAL LOTTO has provided a revenue stream that has enabled the bowling club to invest in new equipment and given members not only the opportunity to win prizes but the knowledge that so many good causes have benefited."

A supporter of Almscliffe Villages Community Association, who recently won £250, had this to say about THE LOCAL LOTTO: "Living in Almscliffe, I joined THE LOCAL LOTTO to help provide the much needed funds to make our community better. Having had a few wins this being my biggest, makes it even better especially over summer holidays - extra treats for my girls.

"I would recommend joining THE LOCAL LOTTO it really does help to make the community - bring much needed funds to make our area even better."
