Self-build and custom housebuilding register

The Government wants to enable more people to build their own homes. We would like to find out how many people are seeking land to build a home.

What is Self-build and Custom Housebuilding?

Self-build is where someone directly plans the design and construction of their own home. Finding and buying the plot of land and either physically undertaking the work themselves as a 'DIY' project or arranging for a contractor to build their own home for them.

Custom build projects are where someone works with a specialist developer to deliver their new home. In this scenario, the custom builder may secure the site for you and manage the build of your home.

Registering with the council

The council is required to develop a register of people who are seeking land to build a home, in line with the Self Build Act 2015 and The Self-build and Custom Housebuilding (Register) Regulations 2016. Please follow this link if you wish to make an application for entry in the register:
