Community resilience

Why create a community emergency plan?

No matter what measures we put in place, accidents and emergencies happen. In the last few years, the country has experienced severe winter weather, flooding, travel disruption, fuel shortages, animal diseases and a pandemic flu outbreak.

The emergency planning team have been working with parishes to develop community resilience plans. These plans help communities:

  • prepare for emergencies
  • respond to emergencies
  • recover from emergencies

Creating a community emergency plan isn't about doing the job of the emergency services. It’s about supporting your community by making sensible preparations and using the skills and knowledge in the community to support the emergency response.
