Key project updates and leisure centre changes

Latest update:

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We've taken the decision to close all of our leisure centres, swimming pools, community centres, Turkish Baths, our two museums, the Mercer art gallery and tourist information centres.

This is with effect from end of business tonight (Friday 20 March) and these buildings will remain closed until further notice. The decision is in line with updated government guidance and reflects the need for us to do what we can to encourage greater social isolation in light of the spread of the coronavirus. If you are affected by these closures, there is no need for you to get in touch. If you are a member of our venues, having swimming or diving lessons or other regular activities, your membership will be suspended and you will not be charged for April or May. If you have existing bookings, you'll be contacted over the coming days.

March 2020

  • from Monday 16 March the first floor will be closed as refurbishment work starts on our new gym and fitness area
  • the ground floor arts hall is being prepared to temporarily accommodate our gym in one half and fitness studio in the other half.  Spinning classes will also be relocated to the ground floor in a room accessed near the sports hall.  These will open on the 16 March with a new temporary fitness class timetable
  • grading work will continue, as well as drainage and kerbing on the new permanent car park
  • grouting, drainage and groundwork will continue across the site

February 2020

  • the arts hall will be closed for six to eight weeks to prepare for the temporary relocation of the gym, fitness studio and spinning room from March to October 2020

  • new visitor signage will be installed
  • groundwork across the site will continue

  • the new site for the play area will be formed
  • grading, drainage and kerbing will start on the new permanent car park

Play area at Ripon Leisure Centre

As part of this project, we will be investing £100,000 to build a brand new play area on the site. This is a great opportunity to create a 'destination' play area for Ripon.

This consultation will gather opinions from local residents to help us create the most suitable design for the play area. The public consultation report will be used to create a wish list for the design brief, which will influence the final decision.

Play area at Ripon Leisure Centre consultation

The closing date is Monday 20 April 2020. The final design for the play area will be available on the results and reports from consultations page in September 2020. We expect the play area to be open by May 2021.
